Blog Update

20/10/2010

Its been a long long time since my last post. I will be returning to the blog which I will hopefully re-design to give it a fresh look.

Back soon.

When asked if RE PSP was cancelled over at the Capcom-Unity forums the following statement was made;

“Sorry guys, no news on this one right now.

best,

Seth”

The worrying fact about this staement is that in no way has the idea of the game being cancelled been denied.

An unused concept for an alternate version of safari Chris.

After looking through some concept art of Jill from Re5 (below) I noticed a couple of interesting points. Check out the second image which shows the full-page of concept art.

Just got my hands on this book, it’s very awesome indeed. If you’re a fan of Resident Evil 5 or just gaming concept art its well worth picking up.

Scans of some of the art can be found here, they weren’t scanned by me and they don’t really compare to having the actual book, but if you don’t feel like buying the book you can view most of the contents at that site.

After recently looking through some Resident Evil concept art I noticed a few similarities between unused concept art and certain characters in the released game.

This image is an unused Excella concept with her sporting much shorter hair. The similarities are quite apparent again the short hair and a little cheeky smirk, to be honest I think this Excella looks more like Sheva than the Excella used in the game.

I mentioned this outfit before but that was before I had seen the RE5 concept art. The outfit in both pictures is pretty much the same apart from the colour differences. Both have short skirts, a blouse with turned up sleeves, opened up chest area . Excella’s open top reveals her under garment however Sheva’s outfit shows a white shirt.

On June 2, 2009 Capcom announced that a new Resident Evil title would be making its way to the PSP, the only details given were that it wouldn’t be a port of an older title. That was nine months ago and no new info has been announced, now this could be a case of Capcom aren’t ready to show the title or maybe they are saving it for E3.

I’m a huge Resident Evil fan and was very excited at the announcement however the lack of any info on the title being release has me worried, Is the game still being made? This wouldnt be the first time Capcom have  pulled the plug on a big PSP title. A PSP version of Devil May Cry was originally planned for the PSP and apparently there was a PSP version of DMC 3 playable at E3 in 2005. Sadly in 2009 Famitsu magazine broke the news that the title was “suspended from retail sale” basically it was cancelled.

I truly hope that I’m wrong on this but I cant help but worry Resident Evil PSP is as dead as one of the games decaying zombies.

I have contacted Capcom and will update you with any info I receive.

Sony’s “kill Switch” or  the “Sony timer” is a very old urban myth but after experiencing the current PS3 phat outage situation first hand im wondering if it’s more than a myth?

Since 1980 crazy conspiracy theorists had jokingly suggested the existence of the “Sony timer”,  a kill-switch that destroys your Sony device just after its warranty runs out. The Dell Laptop recall from a few years back (due to faulty Sony batteries) brought the urban legend into the public eye with many anti Sony consumers using it as an advantage to further denounce Sony.

Late last night I was experiencing problems unlocking trophies on my PS3, then I was completely logged out of PSN and un-able to log back on. It turns out im not the only one facing such problems with most owners of Phat PS3 models having similar issues. Have Sony accidently triggered their Kill switch on the older PS3 models? I’m sure fanboys from both camps will tell alternate stories on the situation. Hopefully Sony will fix this problem soon.

Little Big Excite Bike?

A great big chunk of Exite Bike + a smidgen of Little Big Planet = a whole lot of awesomeness.

For those that aren’t quite following me, Hello Games recently released a trailer for their new title Joe Danger and it looks amazing. The game seems to combine two of my favourite titles into one amazing downloadable game. With the gameplay of Excite Bike (Nes Version) crazy flips included and the creativity of Little Big Planet (LBP) this title looks amazing, it is definitely flying high on my awesome radar. Check out the trailer at Gametrailers.

Whilst watching the trailer I couldn’t help but think how much this reminded me of LBP, I’m finding it hard to believe this isn’t a LBP level. Media Molecules PS3 masterpiece does include vehicles (or the ability to create your own) but that’s not quite the same as having a pre-made one to use. Leaving it up to gamers to make their own vehicles may seem cool but it will lead to the less skilled gamer missing out on all fun.

LBP has seen the release of numerous DLC costume and sticker packs, however one vehicle pack could have had a much larger impact on the game. If LBP had vehicles immediately available combined with the multiplayer aspect and the great physics model of the game we would have seen this type of thing long before now. It’s awesome that Hello Games are creating this game for us all (and I’ll be buying it day one) but I cant help but think Media Molecule should have beat them to it.
