Demon’s Souls is coming to the US very shortly. Having spent a lot of time I can say its a great game and well worth the time and money of any gamer looking for a lengthy action/rpg title  that is unlike anything else on the market at the moment. Having obtained the platinum Trophy I was interested in finding out if the US version had a separate Trophy set to the Hong Kong version, if so I was considering picking up the US version aswell.

I contacted Atlus USA via youtube and got the following response.

“Hello. The US version has the same trophies available as the Asian versions of the game, but they will be counted as a new set. Therefore, you will be able to re-earn them. Thank you for your interest and support! “

Looks like I’ll be importing the game for a secong time.

1. More Weapons for Single player

It has been rumoured for a while that new weapons would be made available for Resident Evil 5 via DLC, now that the RE5 AE has been announced Capcom should definitely give us more weapons.

2. No mercy Mode

One of the best new additions to the PC release of RE5 is the No Mercy mode. Basically its just like the Mercs mode but with three times the enemies. Now obviously this could be quite hard to implement on consoles due to hardware limitation and all but I have come up with two solutions. Make sure it can be played in Co-op mode.

A. VR training No mercy

Basically remove all the textures from the Mercs mode backgrounds and replace them with very flat low-res textures (similar to the Vr Missions in Metal Gear) this should free up some resources allowing Capcom to up the enemy count. Perhaps even do the same to the enemies even, though this might be a bit much though. Could be a sort of BSAA VR training program or something along those lines.

B. Run the game at a lower resolution.

When playing offline Co-op the game is split up into 2 smaller windows (each about 1/3 of the screen so around a 1/3 of the resolution). Rather than have two windows at this lower Res have one window stretched (full screen or maybe a little bit less but not a small as one of the windows from couch co-op), this would surely free up a wealth of system resources allowing all those enemies to be added.

3. More stages for Mercs mode

Talked about this one already and I’m working on some concepts also. I would love to see the number double from 8 to 16. With four levels based on the exsiting levels, three based on the new content (Spencer Mansion ETC) and one special stage like the Prison from RE5 and Waterworld from RE4.

4. Higher Ranks for Mercs

Ok so the current highest rank is an SS and requires 150k points but the high score on most stages (in duo) is close to 1 Million adding a couple of new ranks would be a great addition for gamers who have obtained all SS ranks in each stage.

SSS Rank could be around 300k. SSSS Rank could be 450k. Then maybe a Stars Rank at 600k

Obviously the Ranks need to achievable by all players not just the god like ones so Ive kept them reasonable.

5. More usable Characters in the Mercs mode

This is one I have disscussed before also, however after witnessing the awesome things modders have been doing to the Pc version quite easily this is a must for the AE release of RES5. At least one new character per new Mercs stage, the two new models for Chris and Sheva could be used and the new weapons for the campaign could be used also.

6. Uber Boss Mode

Ok so the name needs to change but its the best I could come up with at the time. This mode would play exactly like the normal mercs mode, however all the standard Majini enemies would be replaced with the chainsaw Majini enemies. Then if that wasnt crazy enough the other boss characters would also show up (the Executioner, Reaper, Licker, Giant Majini and the chaingun Majini ).

This mode I imagine would be fairly easy to implement into the game and no additional content needs to be made.

7. Two new costumes for Chris and Sheva

Pc gamers were treat to two new ones so we should at least get those plus another two.

8. A whole new set of trophies/achievements

I would love to able to get another platinum/1000gs from player Re5 again, Capcom did this with Lost Planet Colonies. I think it would be a big selling point also. But please add some mercs achievements this time.

9. Expanded versus mode.

Talked about this one previously here.

10. New filters and the ability to have no filter at all.

A PC modder found a why to turn off the greenish tint filter that is the standard filter in RE5, the effect is quite amazing in my opinion and should be included in RE5AE.

Also a modder named Wizard is working on a darkness/night time mod which makes all areas darker as if it were night and would be a very cool addition I think.

11. No HUD mode

Allow gamers to turn the HUD off, have the HUD off but when ever the player aims their weapon it pops up like in monster Hunter on PSP. I already have a lot of screen burn on my Plasma from this game LOL, plus it shows off the great visuals a lot more too.

12. Final Days mode

This mode would have players controlling Alison the blonde girl who is featured in one of the earlier chapters of the game. This mode would be a prequel to the events of the game and would allow gamers to witness the town slowly become completley infected. The mode could have a much slower pace than the actual game and would feature uninfected humans, themode could feature some simple puzzle elements and include some text files to flesh out the story (like the ones you would find in the old scholl Resident Evil games).

UPDATE: It would appear the devs are aware of the problem. Found the follwing info from here.

“***Hey guys, this is Jon Slavin, Design Lead on Zombie Apocalypse from Nihilistic Software.

We have seen  reports from some users who are experiencing issues with on-line connectivity in the PS3 version of Zombie Apocalypse.  The first thing we want to say is that we’re sorry you are having an issue with the game.  While the on-line mode of game is working correctly for the majority of users, and thousands of on-line sessions have been logged, we are working to address these reports of problems as quickly as possible.

Before release, the game was tested on-line extensively at Nihilistic, at Konami, and at Sony, and we did not encounter the issues that some users are currently reporting.

To help us identify the problem, we’re requesting affected players to provide as much of the following information about your network setup as you can, by emailing info@nihilistic.com

  • Describe the symptoms you are experiencing.
  • Are your connection issues with this title affecting all sessions, or some sessions with specific users?
  • Are you starting a game via a player invite, through the game browser, or both?
  • What is the NAT type of your connection and (if you know) the players you are connecting to?  (You can find your NAT type via XMB > Settings > Network Settings > Internet connection test.)
  • What version of the PS3 System Software are you using?  (This info can be found in XMB > Settings > System Settings > System Information)
  • What is the brand & model of your router?
  • What ISP do you use?
  • Where are you located geographically?
  • Are you playing with voice chat enabled?

We can’t respond to each report individually, but any information will help us track down the issue.

Again, we apologize to those of you who are reporting on-line connection problems, and are investigating the problem.***”

It would appear that the online portion of Zombie Apocalypse for PS3 is currently only playable if you invite players to your game. Trying to use the matchmaking options results in the PS3 system freezing up, with gamers having to then switch the Ps3 off manually in order to get it working again.

More info can be found here.

This problem has spoiled the game for me as it really is a lot more fun during multiplayer. I have contacted Konami and Nihilistic (the dev) to inform them of this issue, I will report back if they respond.

I completley lost interest in my blog for a while, I mainly believe this happened as I started focusing on general gaming news rather than creating my own concepts as I originally intended.

I’ve been playing a lot of Resident Evil 5 again (and plenty of other games) so i’m really inspired to keep the blog going and stick to the original concept.

Ive been working on some new Re5 material for a while now and will be posting it as soon as it is done.

Here is a little work in progress of one of the more basic things I’m working on (im keeping the best stuff underwraps right now).

 coming soon

The PC version of Resident Evil 5 which is soon to be released feature two new costumes (one each for Chris and Sheva). When viewing Sheva’s costume I had a strange feeling of deja vu.

I had seen the outfit in a Resident Evil game before, in the form of an unused alternate costume for Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 1 (remake) for the Gamecube. Check out the below comparison image.

sheva

Whilst the outfits are not completely identical they are very similar with both being of a business woman theme and spectacles being worn with both.

Whilst browsing further through some other concept art I found another interesting image.

jill

The above image shows Jill in her battle suit (from RE5) and a concept artwork of an unused alternate costume from Resident Evil (remake). Whilst not exactly the same there are some striking similarities such as the colour scheme, open neck with turned up collar. The in the concept art features the glowing red eyes that are also a noticable feature in one of Jills other outfits from Resident Evil 5.

Whilst not a real major piece of news I still find this to be rather interesting as usually unused concepts are left at the drawing board. It is highly likely that the same concept artist worked on both projects.

Al being said I think both the outfits are great editions to an amazing game.

The concept artworks were obtained from http://www.residentevilfan.com/ which is a great site with lots of info and media on all of the Resident Evil titles.
